The Tragically Hip 8-17-1996 The Odeon Cleveland, OH "Some kids from grade 6 wrote the Hip a letter, asking us what "Daredevil" was about, this is called "Gift Shop". This is sort of what we wrote them back, because you can't neglect a grade sixer. If you do, you ain't worth shit." Source: Sennheiser MKE-2002 > Sony D8 Transfer: CDR > EAC > Sound Forge > CD Wave > FLAC Seed notes: I used Sound Forge to remove some digi noise. There is some digi noise in the last 2 tracks on disk 1 that I could not remove. I think the source is correct, but not positive. Fades are from the source disk. Tracked on sector boundries using CD wave, FLAC at level 8. Show notes: A very good audience recording from late summer ’96. I just love some of that “Henhouse” stuff they don’t play anymore, like “Butts Wigglin’” and “Put It Off”. Great versions of both were played at this show. Gordie wrote the words to “Put It Off” on the day his daughter was born, to prove that words could not touch beauty. This version absolutely pounds!! The “Meridian” has a long middle jam with Gordie ranting lyrics from “Poets”, “Vapour Trails”, and the classic “Radio Show”. “New Orleans Is Sinking” goes into “Escape Is At Hand”, full version, with unfinished lyrics, then back into “New Orleans”, without missing a beat. I always loved the way they would create new songs right onstage. Gord Sinclair’s bass was absolutely pumping, and this recording captures it well. Our version is missing the final song of the encore, “Little Bones”, if it was really played. We decided to seed it anyway, because it is a killer Hip show, and the only one we have from ’96.
