It was a gorgeous day in some of the most beautiful part of our fair country so getting out of the car and playing a bit of hacky sack with the neighbouring car while waiting for the traffic to clear up wasn't so terrible. The venue itself is just gorgeous and the festival is well run. On this day, I had been bouncing around a bit between the soundboard of the main stage and a couple of the other smaller stages. The anticipation for this show was palpable all day long. I was a little concerned when the wind started picking up right as this concert was starting but in the end, I still managed a great capture with almost no wind interference. I had the mics clipped on the tarp that made up the side of and was slightly in front of the SBD. Once again and as usual, I was very grateful to the Hip's crew in being understanding and letting me set up trouble-free. It was nice to be somewhat isolated from the usual rowdy crowd and happily it shows in the recording too. As usual, and like for every other Tragically Hip show I've ever been to, there was a huge crowd that just kept getting bigger and bigger throughout the show. With my press pass, I managed to make my way up front to get some photos although I really had to work hard for it because of the crowds. When our three songs were up and we got escorted out of the pit, I hung out in the crowd, took some more photos and just basically enjoyed the show...it was my first time seeing The Hip in a bit over a year so it was due. In retrospect, and after having recorded them 4 more times in January of 2013, you can hear that they were really preparing for their upcoming winter tour here. This ended up being a pretty wild night with a crazy and very enthusiastic crowd and was a thoroughly enjoyable show. I hope you enjoy the recording as much as I enjoyed making it.
